Wire Rope

Comprising several number of strands, wire rope is laid in a spiral form around core of fibre or steel. These have basically three components including wire, core and multi-wire strand which varies in configuration as well as complexity to suit the specific purpose or characteristics. The wire of the rope is manufactured from different materials like iron or steel or stainless steel. Usually high carbon steel is preferred material, as it is available in different grades with every grade having properties related to the curve of wire rope. Provided in either fibre core or wire rope core, these are used in wide range of applications including crane ropes, winch ropes, hoist rope and more.

Characteristics:

• Size is the diameter of the rope and is the widest point of the rope
• The rope lay refers to the direction in which the strands are spirally wrapped around the core
• Various options are available for choosing the type of the core
• Three grades of steel are used including IPS, EIPS and EEIPS.
